I'm gonna say it: Southland is one of the best shows of 2012, flat out and straight up.

It's funny: beyond recalling that The Bachelor, Ben Flajnik, is vaguely yet insistently annoying, and that there's a crazy "black widow" named Courtney scuttling about, nothing about this season is memorable or all that discussion-worthy.

Can one scene reinvigorate a series?

Here's what I'm thinking: The Office should move to another night, and NBC should roll out a lineup of 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, Community, and Up All Night.

As Modern Family chugs along and consistently produces a hilarious and sharply written family comedy(!) while making it look easy, my admiration for many things about the show, including the cast, increases.

Modern Family is one of those rare shows that gets a massive audience and is deservedly critically acclaimed. That it does this and is both consistently funny and a quality family program is a phenomenal feat.

I'm not sure why, but I'm surprised by how much I enjoy NBC's Up All Night on a weekly basis.

I feel like I am one of the few TV critics – amongst those I read anyway – consistently talking up Ringer. It's pulp-tastic fun and the best Sarah Michelle Gellar role(s) since Buffy.
