There is a mix of old and new in the Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series category for the 2011 Emmy nominations.
The venerable institution that is Saturday Night Live is nominated, but so is Conan O'Brien's new show, as well as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Conan has really found his footing again on TBS, and Fallon has carved out a nice late night niche as well. The dynamic duo of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are nominated again, and Bill Maher gets a nod that hopefully won't fill him with anymore smug self-satifaction. He has to be near storage capacity on that count.

Nominees:
Who Should Win
There are a few really good shows in this category. It may actually be the toughest category to make a choice in for me. However, in the end I'm going with The Colbert Report. Stephen Colbert has overtaken his predecessor Jon Stewart with his truly brilliant show that mixes pointed satire with off the wall absurdity. Plus, no show would make better use of winning an Emmy in terms of comedy.
Who Will Win
The Daily Show has won this award the last eight seasons. I see no reason that is going to stop this year.
