Though it's been 20 years since its last original episode, iconic '80s primetime sudser Dallas is coming back to television with J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman), Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy) and Sue Ellen Ewing (Linda Gray). Their families have grown up in the interim years and this latest incarnation of the drama will focus equally on the next Ewing generation including J.R.’s son John Ross (Josh Henderson) and Bobby’s adopted son Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe).

The classic series was initially resuscitated in 2006 to be a big screen movie starring Jennifer Lopez and John Travolta but after those plans collapsed, Dallas was put back into television development at TNT. In 2010, Turner announced the show was going to pilot based on a script by Cynthia Cidre (The Mambo Kings) and today TNT announced Dallas will go into production this summer for a 2012 debut.
In a statement from Michael Wright, the executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS, and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) says, “it wasn't until we read Cynthia Cidre's outstanding pilot script that we knew we had the foundation for a great new series. It is incredibly exciting to see both new and familiar characters in the hands of a dream cast under the guidance of the enormously talented Cidre and Mike Robin. We couldn't be more pleased with how Dallas has come together."
A teaser of the pilot will air this Monday night during TNT series Rizzoli & Isles.
