Emmy nominations 2011 announced: Mad Men, Modern Family get mad love

When I absorbed the Emmy nominations 2011 -- which were announced this morning by Melissa McCarthy and Joshua Jackson -- there was a mixture of “yay!” and “really?” and “where is this person at?” Yesterday I reviewed my wish list of nominees and it shows how wishes hardly come true with Community, John Noble of Fringe, and Cougar Town being snubbed. Below you will find a list of the major nominations with my opinions included.

What were your dream nominations, nominees you agree with or disagree with?

Best drama series
Boardwalk Empire, Friday Night Lights, Dexter, Game of Thrones, The Good Wife, Mad Men

I guess I am going to have to take advantage of Netflix to stream Mad Men later this summer to see what the fuss is all about because it always gets nominated! The best news is that Friday Night Lights is finally nominated! Of course this is what I am rooting for.

Best comedy series
Modern Family, 30 Rock, Glee, The Office, The Big Bang Theory, Parks and Recreation

Out of all of these shows I would like to see Parks and Recreation take home the prize. 30 Rock, The Office, and Glee had lame seasons this past year.

Drama actress
Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU), Kathy Bates (Harry’s Law), Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) and Mireille Enos (The Killing)

Hands down, Connie Britton! There is no argument for me here.

Comedy actor
Steve Carell (The Office),  Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory),  Matt LeBlanc (Episodes), Louis C.K. ( Louie), Johnny Galecki, Big Bang Theory

I have only watched Steve Carell and Alec Baldwin out of these, so naturally I would say that Steve Carell finally deserves something for playing one of the most unforgettable characters on TV.

Drama actor
Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Hugh Laurie (House), Timothy Olyphant (Justified)

I am torn between Kyle Chandler and Timothy Olyphant, but since it was the last season of Friday Night Lights I would like to see Chandler win this.

Comedy actress
Tina Fey (30 Rock), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Laura Linney (The Big C), Martha Plimpton (Raising Hope), Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly)

Amy Poehler is hilarious as Leslie Knope. She deserves to win this.

Supporting drama actor
Andre Braugher (Men of a Certain Age), John Slattery (Mad Men), Alan Cumming (The Good Wife), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Josh Charles (The Good Wife), and Walton Goggins (Justified)

I can’t believe John Noble has been snubbed again. I wonder if it has anything to do with the ratings of Fringe or if voters are just absolutely nuts! I think this is the category that it doesn’t matter to me who wins.

Supporting comedy actor
Ty Burrell (Modern Family), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Ed O’Neill (Modern Family), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men), Chris Colfer (Glee)

Chris Colfer has done a good job playing Kurt on Glee, but I have read that Ed O’Neill is the most deserving out of this list. I am surprised to see that no actor from Parks and Recreation were nominated.

Supporting comedy actress
Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Sofia Vergara (Modern Family), Jane Lynch (Glee), Betty White (Hot in Cleveland), Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live), Jane Krakowski (30 Rock)

It kind of irritates me that Jane Lynch is nominated because she was hardly even used as Sue Sylvester for the second season of Glee. Although the episode where Sue’s sister died was her best. I think though that Kristen Wiig would be my choice here though.

Supporting drama actress
Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife); Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Christine Baranski (The Good Wife), Michelle Forbes (The Killing), Margo Martindale (Justified), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men)

This is also a good list of actresses -- not sure who to choose!

Reality competition
So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef, The Amazing Race, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Project Runway

Amazing Race always wins so just give it to them one more time, please.
