Emmy nominations 2011: comedy writing award likely to honor Sir Michael Scott

A pretty eclectic group it is for the Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series category.

Greg Daniels gets a nod for Michael Scott's final episode on The Office, which was indeed well written and blended comedy and emotion well. I felt "Reaganing" was one of the weakest episodes of this season for 30 Rock, so I am kind of surprised to see it get nominated. It is also surprising to see an episode of Episodes put up for an award, period. In addition to his nod for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series, Louis C.K. gets a nomination here as well. This is a big year for him.

Nominees:

  • 30 Rock: "Reaganing" (Matt Hubbard)
  • Episodes: "Episode 107" (David Crane, Jeffrey Klarik)
  • Louie: "Poker/Divorce" (Louis C.K.)
  • Modern Family: "Caught in the Act" (Steve Levitan, Jeffrey Richman)
  • The Office: "Good-Bye Michael" (Greg Daniels)
  • Who Should Win
Daniels had a tough trick to pull off in writing "Good-Bye Michael" and he succeeded. This was the most significant episode of The Office in quite some time, perhaps ever, and it was really good and despite being extended it did not drag for a moment.

    Who Will Win
I think Daniels gets this award, although the Modern Family duo will be tough competition presumably. I just feel with regard to Steve Carell's last episode is going to get rewarded, and this may be the best chance.
