Emmy nominations 2011: Timberlake brings sexy back as guest comic actor

Some pretty big names in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for Emmy nominations 2011, including a couple of movie stars in Matt Damon and Zach Galifianakis. The latter's Saturday Night Live episode was considered particularly good, and Justin Timberlake's appearances on that show are usually well received. Damon was strong as Carol on 30 Rock, while Will Arnett's guest spot was a bit less enjoyable than his previous appearances.

Nominees:

  • Will Arnett (30 Rock)
  • Matt Damon (30 Rock)
  • Idris Elba (The Big C)
  • Zach Galifianakis (Saturday Night Live)
  • Nathan Lane (Modern Family)
  • Justin Timberlake (Saturday Night Live)
  • Who Should Win
Matt Damon made several appearances on 30 Rock this year, including a cameo in the live episode, and he has a big episode in which his character and Liz Lemon break up. Damon may not be known for comedy, but he more than held his own on 30 Rock and gets the win from me here.

    Who Will Win
Damon has a good chance, as he is the biggest star of the group. Saturday Night Live hosting gigs lend themselves well to this kind of award, however, so I think in the end this is between Galifianakis and Timberlake, and there may be some Timberlake fatigue at this point, giving Galifianakis the slight edge.
