I was seriously impressed by the first season of Louie, FX’s dark side of the moon experimental comedy dominated by the brilliant and edgy comedian Louis C.K.

Here’s what I wrote last August during Louie’s first season:
Louie, starring Louis C.K., owes a little bit to Seinfeld in that it's about a comedian and features standup segments. But the attitude and perspective of the show are so unique (and unique to Louis C.K.) that it really deserves credit even at this point during its freshman season for carving out some dark and strange and hilarious territory on the television landscape.
Louie Season One was released on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday and features all 13 episodes and bonus footage including deleted scenes, unaired and unrated comedy sketches and commentary as well as exciting guest appearances from comedians Ricky Gervais, Pamela Adlon, Nick DiPaolo, Todd Barry and Mathew Broderick.
Here’s a clip:
I’m most excited – as I always am when grabbing a TV on DVD release that I’m looking forward to – to hear the commentary tracks that will run against some of the more surreal-yet-hilarious footage that has graced television in some time. Additionally, since Louie C.K.’s on stage and on television persona is closely modeled on his real life, it will be fascinating to learn about how skits and situations evolved.
What was Louie C.K. thinking, we want to know? Where was his head?
Say that in a French Canadian accent circa The Kids in the Halls’ fur trapping in the big city sketch while you’re waiting for Louie C.K. to return to FX.
Louie Season Two premieres tonight at 10:30 PM on FX.
