Looks like our man Kenny Cosgrove is getting some work.
Well, that would be Aaron Staton, the actor who plays our favorite Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce account man and part time fiction writer, and the work would be of the videogame variety.
But videogames are big, nay, huge business these days, with graphics so stunning and realistic that human acting and performance has become an intrinsic piece in many titles.
And that goes doubly and triply for Rockstar Games, which has brought us such smash hits in recent years as Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption.
While we don’t know a lot about L.A. Noire, due to release in Spring 2011, we can see from the trailer below that Staton is perfectly cast as a detective in a classic 1940s Los Angeles setting.
Did I mention stunning graphics? Let me answer that: yes, I did. But how about nearly creepy more-human-than-human graphics. When I first saw the trailer, I knew the lead character was very familiar, and I even had a vaguely Mad Men vibe about the affair. So whether it was intentional or not (and I’m betting it was), the Mad Men zeitgeist and Staton’s involvement (and, as Techland notes, Mad Men director Michael Uppendahl is also involved) will certainly be part of the story of this game’s release.
Cosgrove, by the way, was one of those characters we feared might be lost forever from the Mad Men cast after SCDP broke off from the old Sterling Cooper at the end of Season Three. But he managed to make it back to the firm, albeit more embittered and anxious than we’ve ever seen him, and made regular appearances throughout the second half of the season.
With Bert Cooper (Robert Morse) looking like he may now be gone, having quit the firm stemming from Don Draper’s (Jon Hamm) “why I quit tobacco” stunt, and Roger Sterling (John Slattery) marginalized in the wake of Lucky Strike’s departure, Cosgrove and Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser) are likely going to be seen as major drivers of business at the firm.
So between Mad Men and L.A. Noire, looks like we’re going to see quite a bit Staton throughout 2011.
