Party Down the movie? We needs this to happen

Of any show not on the air today, I probably think about Party Down and Mad Men the most. In the case of Donny Draper and crew, I’m at least content in the knowledge that we’ll see the return of Mad Men at some point (even if it will be sometime after 2012’s Super Tuesday primaries and caucuses).

With Party Down, there’s a necessary twinge of regret that I know many fans share because there was so much unexplored potential in Rob Thomas’s creation after the show’s post-Season Two cancellation.

But now there is hope. Great hope. The most hilarious catering crew of all time may just return in the form of a movie.

Rob Thomas revealed the following at a marathon event at Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse: “We're hopeful that there will be a 'Party Down' movie. Ideally, if it works out, we could be shooting in television hiatus time next spring… So hopefully that deal will close, and we'll all tweet about it when it does."

Just hearing the opening theme music is, well, music to my ears. Or something.

In any event, if things shake out right, we may be in line to witness the continuing adventures of Henry Pollard (Adam Scott), Ron Donald (Ken Marino), Casey Klein (Lizzy Caplan), Roman DeBeers (Martin Starr), and the rest of the Party Down catering team.

Will Henry resume his acting career? Will Henry and Casey remain together? Will Roman’s “hard sci fi” screenwriting career take off? We needs to know.

While having coffee this morning, I idly mused about what show I might binge out on over the upcoming July 4th holiday weekend. Now I know.

Party Down: The Movie. Let’s make it happen, people.

Now that Paul Kinsey (Michael Gladis) made a brief but splashy and phenomenal return during last night's Mad Men episode, "Christmas Waltz," there remains only one significant advertising pro from the early seasons who has not made an appearance in the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce era.
