Review: The Bachelor (Ben Flajnik), "Week 7"
(S1607) I hope Ben’s ladies know how lucky they are for all the great locations they get to be whisked off to! One on one dates went to Courtney, Emily, and Lindzi this episode. Out of the three, Emily seemed the most natural with Ben while they walked through town and experienced the culture of Belize.

Kacie B, Rachel, and Nicki received a startled 4am wake-up call by none other than the Bachelor himself to go swimming with sharks! Rachel opened up to Ben and it seemed he was impressed with conquering her fears.  Nicki got some one on one time and explained to Ben how she would love to bring him home to meet her family. She admitted to Ben tonight she is falling in love with him.

Kacie B had pretty much the same talk with Ben that Nicki had. She’s falling in love too! Ben reciprocated by giving Kacie B the rose on the group date, to ensure he would go to her hometown to meet her family. After giving the rose, all 3 ladies decided to have a heart to heart with Ben about Courtney in particular, with them mainly pointing out that she might not be there for the right reasons and advising him to be careful.

Cocktail party time! Kacie B is the only shoo-in for hometown dates, and the women discuss how nervous they are (minus Courtney, because she’s VERY confident she’ll get a rose). Awkward pause and Courtney either seems smug or drunk, when shockingly Ben decides to forgo the party. He knows what he wants, so onto the rose ceremony. He then took the heavy conversation from earlier in the day and wanted to see for himself if what the ladies said was true about Courtney. In the end, she batted her eyes and played him just right.

Ben narrowed it down to his four hometown dates this week, with Lindzi, Courtney, Kacie B and Nicki, all getting the coveted red rose. Out of the four women left, I’d like to see Kacie B make it to the finale. She is a charming, good-looking, classy Southern gal. If Emily Maynard wasn’t the next Bachelorette, I would be voting for Kacie B! That is, if Ben doesn’t end up choosing her.

I really like three of the four women he chose for hometown dates, but I thought Ben was after a wife, a partner, and a mother to his children. Not a two-faced, hair-tossing, 15-minute seeking brat. If Ben ends up choosing Courtney, what would be the point of the Bachelor anyway?

Watching this season has made me wonder why out of all the men from Ashley’s season of the Bachelorette did the producers choose Ben? His last encounter with Ashley, after she declined his proposal, came off as brash and angry. This is a reality show folks, one that makes it known to the players that their heart could be broken! And Ben is not the best looking bachelor (hello Andrew Firestone!). The blue and white striped tank top with the pocket he wore on his date with Lindzi in Belize is definitely a deal-breaker, as Liz Lemon would say.

Besides his lack of fashion, Ben is boring. Some of his one on one time with the ladies has been a real snooze-fest. The women have been more entertaining with a former contestant coming back to have her chance at romance with Ben (shout out to Shawntel!), one contestant having to leave the show after realizing that she’s still in love with someone else back home and of course the backstabbing, hair-pulling cattiness that always plagues the show.

After 16 seasons, not one star of the show has successfully married his chosen lady in the end. We have yet to see if this bad luck will continue or if Ben will break the Bachelor curse. Next week are the pivotal home town dates. We’ll see which women can handle the pressure and move on to the final three.

Great to see you back in action, Erin !

I agree in that I feel that Ben as bachelor has been vaguely yet consistently annoying.

And his choice to bring Courtney along for the final four after a seemingly lovely date with Emily speaks poorly to his choice-making to say the least... but it will as you imply make for an interesting episode next week (maybe)
