Quick Take: True Blood, "If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin'?"
"I know I’m a vampire, Snooki.” – Eric to Sookie

Review: True Blood, "If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin'?"
(S0403) True Blood has done some crazy things in the past but I think Jason’s storyline this season has to be the most disturbing. I was actually looking forward to him getting featured, but Charlaine Harris’ idea of him being a were-panther was a little more tasteful. I do not recall the Hot Shot women lining up to pretty much rape Jason so they could keep the were-panther breed going from the books. This does give the story a little more edge in the HBO version, but it is still unsettling. And why does Sookie not know that Jason is missing -- perhaps shirtless Eric is clouding her mind?
What did work this week is the banter between Tara and Lafayette, Sookie and Eric as roommates, and Bill's new position of power. King Bill is better than Sookie Protector-Bill. Even though he hooked up with Portia, I don’t think he is over Sookie. The duo of Tara and Lafayette becomes even better by adding Jesus to make a trio. I like that they are included in the drama with the witches and I like it when everybody is involved in one storyline. I hope that Sookie gives into Eric sooner rather than later. I love seeing Alcide back and hopefully we'll see more of him as the season progresses.
The stories that need to get the boot include Arlene thinking her baby is evil and all things related to Tommy and Andy being hooked on V. Or perhaps they just need to be resolved soon. It is out of character for Andy to be like this and it seems that they just needed to find something for him to do. I am just not interested in any of these character’s stories.
What was with some of the characters not making good decisions? This ranged from Lafayette going to Fangtasia, thinking he could negotiate with Eric, Sookie asking Alcide to hide Eric but then telling Alcide it wasn’t his problem, Tommy telling Sam his scheme when Sam was most likely not going to participate and will probably stop Tommy anyway, and then Sookie just standing there while her fairy godmother was killed by Eric. It was sad to see Claudine leave the show so soon as well. What was the point of bringing her on to kill her so quickly?
What is working this season thus far is Bill being in charge and Eric being vulnerable. They need to focus on the witches and add a little more Alcide. Not every character needs something to do or have a spotlight every episode.
