TV Geek Army Field Report: treasures of the cutthroat oddball deep

One of my favorite things about putting together the TVGA field report is compiling a category that we lovingly call Weird & Wonderful.

challenge cutthroate

Seeing names of shows such as Amish at the Altar next to  My Dog Ate What? next to I Shouldn’t Be Alive next to I Love Money next to… and so on never fails to put a smile on my face. It’s so easy and often trendy to breezily say that “there’s nothing but crap on TV” or some such (and puffing on a long and thin European cigarette while doing this adds to one’s affect, to be sure), and let’s face it – not every show that falls in that category is going to be a stunning and searing refutation of such a statement.

But I’d counter by saying that put that grab bag of shows together with the unassailably high quality programming going on the air on a given night and you have an incredible choice to suit any number of tastes.

And let’s face it: that’s why television is television, something that everyone except the most isolated and most affected consume in some quantity.

And at the TVGA we’re here to say that that’s a good thing. Join the movement.

Now here’s tonight’s TV:

Now that Paul Kinsey (Michael Gladis) made a brief but splashy and phenomenal return during last night's Mad Men episode, "Christmas Waltz," there remains only one significant advertising pro from the early seasons who has not made an appearance in the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce era.
