Wilde On: Jersey Shore

“Whatever harsh criticism may be passed on the construction of their sentences, they at least possess the vulgarity that makes the whole world kin.” – Oscar Wilde

j-shore

That well constructed sentence fronts the first of a two-part series that parodies Jersey Shore like few others can. That is to say that the Broadway cast of the Importance of Being Earnest takes a little time out from being, well, earnest and performs lines pulled directly from the reality show sensation that everyone either loves or hates, all in full period garb, cadence, and intonation.

Part I:

Part II:

Personally I would have loved to direct this cast with some of my own favorite Jersey Shore moments, such as:

  • Jenni’s phone conversation with her soon to be ex-boyfriend while Pauly D mimes “Roger that” on his invisible turntables in the background.
  • Ronnie and Sammi’s self-destructive train wreck conversation. Which one, you ask? Any.
  • The Situation doing one of his patented/creepy moves to get his DTF girl of the eve into pajamas before heading into the “smash room.”
  • Vinnie’s drunken/creepy/unintelligible uncle hitting on girls less than half his age.
  • Sammi fighting with The Situation, Jenni, Snooki, Angelina, Deena… oh hell, anyone. It’s all glorious.
  • Essentially what I’m saying is that The Importance of Being Earnest fellows need – to quote the great Christopher Walken circa the classic Saturday Night Live cowbell skit – to explore the space.

Now that Paul Kinsey (Michael Gladis) made a brief but splashy and phenomenal return during last night's Mad Men episode, "Christmas Waltz," there remains only one significant advertising pro from the early seasons who has not made an appearance in the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce era.

These people should be ashamed of themselves for completely copying Youtube star Ceciley's videos she posted over 8 months ago.

I wouldn't call it copying but it's similar. I'd say though that the newer version works better -- the montage style keeps it punchy, got sleepy about a minute into the ceciley version.
