Review: Adventure Time, “Incendium”
(S0326) The Adventure Time season finale begins with Finn crying over his unrequited love for Princess Bubblegum. Jake, seeing his buddy in pain, decides that he will go on a journey to find a new love interest for Finn. His journey takes him to the Fire Kingdom where he meets the perfect candidate: the Flame Princess. Unfortunately, Jake has to woo the king before he can match make for his buddy.

The immediate thing people will notice about the Fire Kingdom -- specifically the Flame King -- is the voice cast. The Flame King is voiced by Keith David, who is currently making his name as a voice actor by portraying Captain Anderson in the “Mass Effect” video game franchise. His regal voice works wonderfully as a king in the world of Oo and his daughter isn't lacking in the voice over department either. Jessica DiCicco, another well known voice actress, provides her vocal chords for the Flame Princess. It amazes me how many guest voice actors provide their talent for this show. Most actors would never dream of working with animation in anyway, but these guys do it and, at the very least, act as if they are enjoying the work. I can't help but give some respect points to that.

Other points are given to the story itself -- it's particularly well done. The twist that the princess is evil comes out of nowhere but is great comedy nonetheless. The entirety of the plot is Jake attempting to charm the King and Princess by faking presents. Most of the “charming” involves Jake singing or using his shape shifting abilities to make a clone of Finn. The plot twists reach a level of “wow” whenever the Flame Princess follows Jake home to kill him. After the squabble, Finn states that he has a crush now. Well played Adventure Time writers. Well played.
