American Idol, "Hollywood Week 2": group performances

Quick Take, American Idol, "Hollywood Week 2"
"Didn't your group have somebody else?" - RandyAshley pulls it togetherReview, American Idol, "Hollywood Week 2"
(S1009) Everyone knows they have to do a group thing next, and they've all been prepping for it, so the judges decide to shake things up a bit: each group has to have people from both days of the last round of performances. A huge chunk of the next bit is Brett trying to find another person, Tiffany Starboobs ticking people off, Clint upsetting Jacee and Ashley having a mental breakdown. Starboobs winds up with Jessica, and no one else will join, so they get special permission to be a duo, even though the rules say at least a trio. There's much running around, and practicing all into the night, with drama from the group of 15-and-16-year-olds who get coaching from their stage moms, and that might be an unfair advantage and is definitely an annoyance. Rob and Chelsee are in a group together, minus Nick, and aren't on speaking terms, plus, he doesn't ever dance.

Millions of performances. Standouts were, on the good side: Lauren A was awesome even when her group wasn't as good, and the performance was all sorts of fun, Ashley's performance was great considering she tried to quit, Ebony-Ivory-Ebony's version of Get Ready acapella, Carson's part of his group.

And on the bad side: Tiffany and Jessica (just downright bad, and tasteless choreography, plus, Tiffany was a b to the judges when they told her the truth), Matt forgot the lyrics to Just The Way You Are, James's group did a bad job with Somebody To Love and were shown up by the fifteen-year-olds doing the same song better.

Through to the next round: Pia, Brielle, Alesandra, Jordan, Robbie, Adrian, Lauren T, Karen, Jovany the Abs, Lauren A, Colton, Brother Mark (Brother Aaron gets sent home), Ashley, Ashton, Keeira, Caleb, James and his Rock Scream, Keonna, Jalen, Sarina-Joi, Felix Ramsey, Deandre, Corey, Hollie, Julie, Casey (yay!), Da'Quela, Matthew, Naima (whoo!), Jacob, Carson, Caleb, Erin, Chris, Jacee (yay!), Denise, Stevie, Natalie, Brett (yay!), Clint, Scotty, Monique, Frances, Chelsee, Jaqueline, and a number of unknowns.

More thoughts on American Idol, "Hollywood Week 2":

  • Emily Anne got sent home without us even seeing how she did. Sadness.
  • There was so much drama with the whole group thing, and the editing made it look like there wasy extra drama where none really existed.
  • With this many people, the show doesn't have space to really linger much, but it still managed to cram a whole lot of music into the space given.
  • Steven always looks like he's having a blast, regardless of what anyone else is doing, and sometimes that's misleading to the people performing.
  • I always wonder how many people are good enough to get through, but not interesting enough for us to see them on-screen.
