Glee, "Furt": wedded bliss

Quick Start: Glee, "Furt"
"Finn, trust me on this. I've been planning weddings since I was 2. My Power Rangers got married and divorced in so many combinations they were like Fleetwood Mac." - Kurt

Review: Glee, "Furt"
(S0208) Sue's mom and a Glee wedding highlighted “Furt.” There was an abundance of marriage proposals during the episode, starting off with Burt and Carole telling Finn and Kurt at school that they were going to get married. Kurt was appointed wedding planner and decided to make it a Glee wedding with New Directions as the musicians. After learning that her news anchor ex-boyfriend was going to be married, Sue decides to marry herself. Sam tells Quinn into that he loves her and gives her a promise ring. She gives him a maybe.

Karofsky, the bully, showed up to torment Kurt again (I am still disturbed by the scene in the last episode when he told Kurt he was going to kill him if he told anybody that he kissed him). When Mr. Schuster sees Kurt upset they take his complaint to Sue, but she as principal can’t do anything about it unless Karofsky physically hurts Kurt. Rachel gets the glee girls together to get their boyfriends to take care of Karofsky. Mike and Artie confront Karofsky in the locker room with Sam being the one to take a punch to the face. In the music room, everybody gives Finn slack for not being in the fight too and Kurt thanks everyone else for standing up for him, especially Sam.

Carol Burnett showed up as Sue Sylvester’s Nazi hunting mother Doris, just in time for the wedding. Sue wants to know why she has returned home after years of being gone. She tells Sue that she wants to sing at her wedding.

Kurt attempts to teach Finn and Burt to dance for the wedding, but Karofsky walks by and makes fun of Kurt. After Burt sees it, Kurt finally fesses up to his dad that Karofsky made a death threat against him. Burt, Kurt, Karofsky and his dad end up in the principal’s office after Burt confronts Karofsky. Sue takes action and expels Karofsky after listening to Kurt.

Before the wedding, Santana tries to talk Finn into telling people they slept together so he can get his popularity status back. She knows that he is threatened by Sam, but he doesn’t want to hurt Rachel since she thinks they are both virgins. Santana threatens to tell Rachel as Rachel walks in the room. Santana leaves and Finn tells Rachel that he loves her.

Burt and Carole’s wedding goes off without a hitch with the gang singing “Marry You” on the way down the aisle. We even got to see Mr. Schuster sing Michael Buble’s “Sway” at their reception. It was a perfect ending with the Glee kids singing Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are” and Finn dedicating it to Kurt.

Sue holds her wedding with her sister and mother present. Doris tells Sue the whole thing is bizarre and she leaves after Sue tells her that she was a bully to her. In the end, Quinn ends up putting on Sam’s ring and the school board decides not to expel Karofsky. Kurt makes the announcement that he is transferring to Dalton Academy to get away.

Overall, I really liked this episode. It was nice to see story lines move forward, but it was sad to see Kurt’s problems still linger. It will be interesting to see where this goes with him going to Dalton, but I am hoping for more Darren Criss sightings! Next week: sectionals.

Other highlights:

  • Carol Burnett and Jane Lynch’s duet “Ohio.” It would be fun to see Carol Burnett in future episodes; she is perfect as Sue’s mom.
  • Burt and Carole’s speeches at the wedding. Don’t tell me you didn’t at least sniffle during this!
  • Sam and Quinn, possibly one of the cutest couple’s ever. His promise ring proposal was a very endearing moment. They need to have more duets!
  • Finn naming him and Kurt “Furt” as he apologized for not being there for him and promised Kurt to always back him up now that they are brothers.
