Quick Take: Homeland, "Marine One"
"Am  I crazy?" - Carrie

Homeland

Review: Homeland, "Marine One"
(S0112) When I started watching Homeland, I was taken aback at how high the stakes were for so many of the characters. If the events on this show were really taking place, it would be national news and every American would know about it. Moreover, each individual character on the show has so much at stake that they can't help but be forever changed after the season finale, even the Vice President.

Take Carrie (Claire Danes), for example. Saul (Mandy Patinkin) made it clear that even if she doesn't get charged with a felony, her career as an analyst is over. That's a pretty big deal considering her job was the only thing keeping her relatively sane.

It appears that there is an upshot to having a precocious wise ass for a daughter, which is good news for me. Dana (Morgan Saylor) certainly did the right thing by following her instincts to discover what her dad was hiding. The question now is will Brody (Damian Lewis) be able to keep her fooled long enough to carry out his mission?

The performance by Damian Lewis in this episode is why the Emmys were invented. The subtle ways that he makes it clear he is conflicted about what he's doing are really impressive, especially when shown in contrast to Walker's (Chris Chalk) silent and determined persona. Despite outward appearances, there is nothing black and white about this situation.

The irony of everybody calling Carrie crazy is so brilliant, I can't stand it. Yes, she's nuts, even she knows that. Sadly, when it comes to Brody, she's the only one who knows the truth and what needs to be done about it. Reaching out to Dana was the right thing to do and if not for Carrie and a small malfunction the plan would have gone off without a hitch.

There really was only one way that the season could have ended and it ended perfectly. Now there is no doubt that Brody plans to seek revenge on Walden (Jamey Sheridan). However, there are still plenty of questions left to answer, not the least of which is how will Carrie advance her theories after being zapped?
