Nicole & Jionni's Shore Flip: the return of Snooki (& the other guy)

It's strange to look back at the time, the relatively recent time of December 2009, when MTV's Jersey Shore landed upon our golden American shores. It's strange because that was still a relatively innocent and unexploited era for reality television.

nicole and jionni's shore flip

Now trudge forward to 2016 and we have Nicole & Jionni's Shore Flip (premieres on Wednesday, February 24th, 2016 at 9:00/8:00c on FYI), an umpteenth iteration (yeah, this is a reality TV show sub-genre that spans the gamut from Jennie Garth to Vanilla Ice) of the pick a celebrity, drop them into a home of some sort that needs some renovation, turn on the cameras and sit back and watch while they get to said renovations. And oh yeah, queue up the heavily scripted moments, burn the midnight oils for the hardworking video editing team, and then watch the magic happen!

In this case, we're talking about Nicole Polizzi, more popularly burned into the American consciousness as Snooki, and her somewhat marble mouthed, grin and bear it in an "aye, what're you gonna do?" style husband, Jionni Lavalle. We got to know our little firecracker of a gal Snooks pretty well over the course of the Jersey Shore years, during which she eventually and reluctantly tapered off her hard partying and occasionally getting arrested ways and settled down with now husband Jionni. If you were a true Snooki and Jwoww die hard, you stuck around for the spin-off reality show Snooki & Jwoww (note: I was much more of a Pauly D Project guy myself... don't judge!), during which the couple gave birth to a child, Lorenzo Dominic LaValle (is that a name or what?).

Here's a Nicole & Jionni Shore Flip trailer:

"Hey guys, we've got a new show and it's flipping awesome," Snooki tells us. Get it?

So what else do we know? We know that Nicole and Jionni are returning to the scene of the crime, so to speak, as the Jersey Shore is the location for the house renovating and flipping. Nicole/Snooki showed approximately zero interest or aptitude for the house renovating, house flipping, or any career of any kind really (recall all those time Snooks attempted to sneak off to pound some booze with fellow comrade-in-arms Jwoww?) while on Jersey Shore. But who knows, perhaps as a mom now and now in her post Jersey Shore and Snooki & Jwoww years, she's found a passion... that fits just right for yet another reality television vehicle. And, to be fair, the concept does sync up well

I must end on a quick Jersey Shore anecdote. The show provided some seriously hilarious moments, and we're talking not even of the laughing at variety. One of my all time favorites was when The Situation, Pauly D, and the fellas were attempting to forcefully... invite some lady guests to leave and said lady guests were recalcitrant in making their way to the egress (read = they wanted to literally fight for their right to stay and party), one our young heroes, noticing a garbage truck passing by down the street, loudly announced, "Yo, your ride's here!"
