Revolution: Giancarlo Esposito to co-star in new NBC drama

It didn’t take long for fans of AMC’s Breaking Bad to become endearingly terrified by the menacing meth-lord, Gustavo Fring. Following the explosive conclusion to the show's penultimate season, actor Giancarlo Esposito has been in deservingly high demand. Already, he has snagged a recurring spot on ABC’s Once Upon a Time as the Magic Mirror, and is slated for a guest appearance on the soon-to-return Community on NBC.

Bound for the bigger and better, Esposito might have already landed his next big appearance, being penned in for a co-starring role on JJ Abrams’ new drama pilot, Revolution. In a world where all the energy and power sources have inexplicably failed, Esposito will play Captain Neville, a multi-faceted military man who may be even more than he appears to be to the other survivors.

Revolution will see Fringe’s Bryan Burk join Abrams as the pilot’s executive producers, with Supernatural’s creator, Eric Kripke, set to write the pilot, and Iron Man’s Jon Favreau seated in the director’s chair. To offset the big names behind the camera, Esposito is joined on-screen by some less familiar faces in Tracy Spiridakos, Graham Rogers, and Anna Lise Phillips. The pilot has been picked up by NBC, which already doesn’t inspire much confidence for the show’s future, but hopefully by then their scheduling will be less spasmodic and actually supportive of its programming.

If the impact of last night’s finale of the Walking Dead was at all diminished by the quality of season premieres it went up against, I’d hate to see how it would have matched up against those same shows’ finales.
