Snooki & Jwoww, "Calm Down Hormonal!": not hurrahing

Quick Take: Snooki & Jwoww, "Calm Down Hormonal!"
"This is supposed to be me and Nicole's last hurrah, and she's not hurrahing." – Jwoww

Review: Snooki & Jwoww, "Calm Down Hormonal!"
(S0106) We get Snooki hanging out with little dogs this week while Jwoww takes an organic cooking class. There doesn't seem to be a driving reason for either activity beyond the need to insert a reality show premise at this point in Snooki & Jwoww's first season.

The underlying theme is that Snooki's pregnancy is starting to become a factor on the real, as the kids might say. Snooki is cranky and can't have an alcoholic drink – let alone get wasted to pan-dimensional levels as was her wont down at the Jersey Shore – which impacts Jwoww's good times and plans for a single gal's paradise ahead of the coming specter of real life taking root.

I realized recently that Snooki & Jwoww veers into seriously boring territory when we're just hanging out with the girls. Even though Snooki's boyfriend Jionni is a bit of an inarticulate marble mouth, things get a bump more interesting when he and Jwoww's boyfriend Roger is around, mostly due to the latter's attempts to bring a little Jersey Shore-style shtick into the works.

Jersey Shore's other spin-off show, The Pauly D Project, is far more successful overall because Pauly D is a generally engaging and entertaining reality show figure even when he's just hanging out back at the crib.

The episode ends on an odd and unsettling note as Roger calls Jwoww and unleashes a blistering assault about what a liar she is about a mysterious lawsuit that is "all over the news." Things might have been a little more dramatic had we known just what the background is here, but we're presumably supposed to enjoy the proceedings without much, if any, context.

Well, we do get Jenni admitting this: "Trust is the most important thing to Roger and… not lying, so he f---ed up by dating me."

More thoughts on this week's edition of Snooks and Jenni:

  • "You know, I never really did anything with my schooling." – Snooki
  • The girls bond over both cheating on their boyfriends back in the day.
  • Snooki confirms that she and Vinnie had some kind of "real" relationship at some point (and that she didn't cheat on him) .
  • I've noticed that the Jersey Shore cast has a penchant for using "right now" when they are feeling particularly complain-y/lament-y. "I can't believe this is happening to me right now," and this sort of thing. It's as though to say they might be able to see the logic of such an occurrence at other times, but right now is causing particular woe.
