'Supernatural' season 9 finale has set up a game-changing season 10

(S0923) After watching the"Supernatural" season 9 finale "Do You Believe in Miracles"  a line from Shakespeare's play Hamlet came to mind, "though this be madness, yet there is method in't" and Jeremy Carver's set-up can go a couple ways in season 10.

Now, Dean's resurrection after death as a demon may not have been a total shock to some, as it seemed this was where the train was headed once the influence of the Mark of Cain was evident in Dean. Recent news announced that Mark Sheppard (Crowley) will be a series regular for season 10, so that suggests we may have a lot more Demon Dean than Human Dean. After watching for nine seasons it's not a far leap to say that becoming a demon would not be the way a Winchester would want to end up, so what does Carver have in store to fix this conundrum?

The fact that Crowley is a large ingredient to next season does make it look as though Dean will be his demon self for the majority of the season, no quick fix ahead to have the Winchester brothers side-by-side in the Impala anytime soon. Sam will undoubtedly throw his hat in the ring to save his brother. But, can he be saved? What happens when you die and then resurrect as a demon? We know what happens to a soul that has turned after long years in Hell, but Dean's situation is different. Well, my mind does go back to season 8 and the trials, one trial especially rings a bell, "to save a demon". So, we know there is a way to 'save' a demon from its evil nature and reintroduce its humanity. So, Sam knows the ritual the priest performed and this could be a way to save Dean. Perhaps, Carver has something else in mind only time will tell. Will Demon Dean be cold and calculating much like soulless Sam? Will Dean still have that big brother protective streak for his brother, even if buried deep below the surface. I envision this Lord Vader and Emperor Palpatine Star Wars moment when Darth Vader refuses to kill his son and turns on Palpatine. Yes, Crowley seems to have a soft side for both brothers, so would he put out kill orders eventually for his Moose aka Sam? Who knows, there are a lot of paths this could follow, but only two outcomes.

Dean must be saved and not left a demon, otherwise, the magic that is "Supernatural" would be lost, as I cannot see a world where Demon Dean and Human Sam would be the brother unit we as viewers have been drawn to watch season after season. But, where is Carver headed with "Supernatural" to a series finale or a season 11? After all, the only other CW show that comes to mind that had 10 seasons was "Smallville" and that was its final hooray. This new story arc can present either scenario with ease and that begs the question was the cliffhanger of season 9 and new beginning or the beginning of the end?

Dean's last words to his brother were, "I'm proud of us" and that will surely be the fuel behind Sam into season 10 and will that kernel of affection and brotherhood carry itself into Demon Dean, even if a little? There are a lot of questions and sadly we have to theorize and wring hands for an entire summer hiatus. So, Jeremy Carver, as I said at the beginning, "though this be madness, yet there is method in't" simply means game on ... weave your story and paint your landscape, but be careful with our boys, we're trusting you.

Thoughts, theories and comments are always welcome!

Just an add-on to my article: I wonder if Sam will use the 'save a demon' ritual on Dean? Will Dean possess demon powers? I imagine he will. So, does that mean Sam will start back his demon blood drinking, so he can be on an even playing field with his brother and Crowley? Will Dean be a Knight of Hell? I have a lot of questions and ideas. Feel free to comment and put your theories and ideas out there! "Supernatural" Season 10 or Bust!

If Sam does use the "save a demon" ritual to return Dean to a human state, he'll sacrifice his own life. That isn't something human Dean would want. So it will be an interesting season 10 for sure to see what happens. Love, Robin

Hi Robin, Thanks for reading and commenting. I'm thinking that the 'save a demon' ritual used outside of the trials won't kill Sam. The priest that came up with the ritual didn't die after completing, so I'm hopeful Sam wouldn't either since he isn't doing a trial. At any rate, I'm very interested in seeing what happens in Season 10. Thanks again for commenting :-)

I'm really excited on the airing of season 10. if sam will use the save a demon ritual, there's a possibility that he might risk his own life like what happened on season 8. I'm hoping that there's another way to save dean and i'm looking forward to that.

Hi Posh, Thanks for commenting! Yep, I excited for season 10, too. I don't think Sam has to risk his life to perform the ritual. If he does the ritual, I'm thinking he can do it like the priest did and he didn't die. I think if he does the ritual he can outside of it being as if he re-started the trials. So, I don't think doing the ritual has to mean risking his life to save Demon Dean. We'll have to wait and see :-)
