The Bachelorette (Desiree Hartsock), "Week 3": love is a battlefield

Things really started to heat up this week on the Bachelorette as one man broke his finger, another was outed for having a girlfriend and one dug his own grave by saying I love you. Chris, Brian, Drew, Michael, Brooks, Brad, Mikey, Zack K., and Ben got the first date of the week. They meet Desiree at a gym where they learn some dodgeball tips from members of the National Dodgeball League. The guys practice a little with them and then Chris Harrison tells them the real game will be against each other in a public place.

The guys are split into teams and the winning one gets to spend the evening with Desiree. Everything is going okay until Brooks breaks his finger while going for a ball. By the look on his face it seemed pretty painful and he had to be taken to the hospital. The game continues with the blue team winning but Desiree decides to take everyone to the after party.

All of the guys try to spend time with Desiree to get the date rose. Chris takes her to the roof for a romantic moment. Brad spills the details on his messy past relationship and the fact that he has a son.  After going to the ER, where he passed out after seeing how mangled his finger was, Brooks comes back to have some time with Desiree and gets a kiss. Surprisingly, Desiree ends up giving the date rose to Chris. They get to be alone and are treated to a private concert.

The next day, Desiree is supposed to have a one on one with Kasey, but before she can go she gets a call from Chris. Apparently there is a guy in the house who has a girlfriend and she is there to confront him. Desiree goes down to the guy’s house and it is Bryan who is the culprit. Desiree tries to get him to admit it, but he tells her that relationship ended a few months ago.

Chris comes to the house with the girlfriend, Stephanie, where she and Bryan have yelling match. At first, you kind of felt bad for the guy because she seemed like she was a little crazy. Accusations fly and both are trying to get Desiree to believe what they are saying. Bryan says that he left to get away from their ‘toxic relationship’ and Stephanie says that she tried to end it, but he wouldn’t let her. And he had told her he was going away to think about things, but somehow ended up on a dating show. The worst part is when she reveals she is a single mother and accuses him of not being a good role model for her son. It definitely takes a turn when Bryan admits that he had slept with Stephanie two days before he left for the show. For Desiree, that’s a deal breaker. She sends him home immediately and he isn’t even allowed to say goodbye to the guys.

The guys are stunned as they listen to the fight and Brandon gets teary eyed since he was a child of a single mother and knows what it is like to have father figures go in and out of his life. Desiree decides to continue with her date with Kasey, but their whole day seems off. They are taken to a hotel where they do aerial stunts on the side of the building and then when they go to have dinner it is extremely windy on the roof and things start to topple over. Desiree just doesn’t seem happy, not even when he kisses her, but she gives him the rose for being a good sport about it.

James, Juan Pablo, Bryden and Zak W get the last date of the week. They are taken to a ranch where they are taught to be cowboys by the stunt team from Disney’s new movie, The Lone Ranger. The guys put on their cowboy hats, chaps and boots and try to be the best cowboy to win some alone time with Desiree. After doing his bit in Spanish, Juan Pablo gets the Lone Ranger badge and gets to watch the movie with Desiree. They pretty much spend most of their time kissing.

They spend the rest of the evening hanging out. Each get alone time with Desiree, but it is James who ends up getting the date rose after he tells Desiree that being away from his father while he is ill has been hard and he wants to know if they really have something going.

After all of the dates, Desiree decides she would rather have a pool party than a cocktail party. Before she gets in the door she is cornered by Ben who convinces her to take a drive. Kasey and Mikey see them kissing when they get back and when they ask Ben later if he has gotten to talk to Desiree, he lies to them about it. His lie gets called out though and they tell him that nobody wants to be his friend. Ben doesn’t really care though what these guys think.

The only crazy thing to happen at the party is Brandon dropping the L word on Desiree and she seems pretty freaked out by it. Dude, it’s been like two weeks and you have barely had any time with her, calm down! Brandon reminds me too much of Kasey Kahl, from Ali’s season, and I was hoping he wasn’t going to break out in song after his declaration of love.

At the end of the day it is Bryden, Juan Pablo, Zak W., Brooks, Drew, Zack K., Brad, Michael, Mikey, and Ben who end up getting roses along with Kasey, James and Chris. Dan and Brandon get the boot and for Brandon rightfully so. He tells her she is making a mistake and she tells him that he isn’t the one for her which is code for ‘you are cuckoo’. He was definitely too intense and emotional.

This season is turning out to be entertaining so far and Desiree has some good guys to choose from. Next week the group heads for Atlantic City and Ben is still up to no good.
