The Bachelorette (Desiree Hartsock), "Week 4": Jersey Shore, Bachelorette-style

It's off to Atlantic City this week on the Bachelorette and the guys seems happy to be leaving the mansion. They arrive at the Revel Hotel and take in their suite with a spectacular view of the boardwalk.

Brad gets the first date this week and the guys chime in to the cameras how he is wrong for Desiree. He and Desiree have some fun at Steel Pier where they go on some rides and eat some candy. They look like they are having a good time until they take a walk on the beach and sit at a sand castle to have a chat. Brad seems really nervous and they don’t seem like they have chemistry. At dinner, unfortunately for Brad, Desiree also feels that they aren’t a good match.  She lets him go after making him walk up some flights of stairs, but he goes out with grace and understands her decision.

Brooks, Bryden, Zak K, Kasey, Drew, Juan Pablo, Zak W, Ben, Mikey, Michael and Chris meet Desiree at Boardwalk Hall for their group date. It is revealed to them that they will be competing in a Mr. America pageant.  The men have to go through an interview, talent and swimsuit portion in front of a live audience.  Before the show starts, the guys get some help with trying to find a talent with the props they are given such as a baton, guitar and strappy high heels. They are prepped for their interviews and they are given swimsuits, including mankinis for some.

First up at the show is the interview portion and they are asked questions on relationships. For the talent portion Kasey tap dances, Mikey dances and shows off his muscles (even though he had just given an answer during the interview about not wanting men to be considered meatheads). Brooks does an awful song and attempts the ukulele. Drew recites some Shakespeare, Chris does hula hoops in heels, Bryden does some awkward pelvic thrusting and Zak W sings and plays guitar. Drew, Mikey, Zak W, Brooks, Ben and Zack K are shown during the swimsuit portion and it was a little disappointing not to see Juan Pablo in his Speedo.  After the judges talk it over they decide on Brooks as the second runner up, Zak W is the first runner up and Kasey ends up being crowned Mr. America.

At the cocktail party, Chris reads a poem to Desiree and they share a kiss. Ben still rubs the guys the wrong way and makes them madder by having his one on one time right in front of them. Stuff must be happening off camera between Ben and the rest of the guys because so far there hasn’t been too much footage to show that he is truly a villain. Zak W breaks out the guitar again and when anybody sings on this show it just seems so awkward.  Desiree loves it though and Zak W scores the date rose.

James gets the final date and they take a helicopter ride with someone from the Red Cross to see the damage that hurricane Sandy had left. James and Desiree tour Seaside Heights and even though the hurricane hit in October of 2012, the area is still heavily damaged.  They meet Manny and Jan, a couple who lives in the neighborhood and are still trying to repair their house. They also had to spend their 38th anniversary in a Red Cross shelter.

Desiree and James talk it over and give their date to Manny and Jan. A limo shows up to whisk them away to Atlantic City where they enjoy dinner and receive a photo album with their wedding pictures that had been ruined by the storm. Desiree and James end up going to pizza where James reveals he cheated on a girlfriend of five years and convinces Desiree that he won’t do it again. Desiree and James go back to the House of Blues to enjoy a private concert by Darius Rucker with Manny and Jan. At the end of the date, Desiree decides that James’ honesty is worth giving him the rose.

At the cocktail party, Bryden is unsure about how he feels and talks about not accepting a rose. Michael and Chris get some good one on one time with Desiree, both seem like they would be a good match. Bryden sucks it up and talks to her about his doubts.  She assures him that she wants him there, but he is still thinking about leaving. At the rose ceremony Chris, Brooks, Juan Pablo, Drew, Michael, Ben, Kasey, Bryden (who changes his mind and accepts) and Mikey get roses along with Zak W and James. Zack K gets the boot, which is no surprise because he was hardly even shown the whole episode! Next week, Desiree’s journey goes global as the gang heads to Munich, Germany where it seems James is the center of the drama and Michael can’t let go of his dislike for Ben.
