The Bachelorette (Desiree Hartsock), "Week 7": Welcome to the Bachelorette

It’s time to get serious this week on The Bachelorette, with hometown dates on the line. Desiree, along with the five remaining men Brooks, Chris, Michael, Zak and Drew, head to the island of Madeira with the men’s hopes being that they get to take her to meet their families next week.

Catherine, Jackie and Lesley, who Desiree made friends with during Sean’s season of the Bachelor, show up to give Desiree some advice. Desiree dishes on the guys and tells them Chris is supportive, Brooks is a positive person but she isn’t sure he is ready to commit, Zak is adventurous, Michael is genuine and Drew is the sweetest person you will meet. They use a pair of binoculars to check out the guys while they are poolside.

Brooks gets the first one on one and gets treated to a picnic on a mountain. They chat about how comfortable they are with each other and talk about meeting families which Brooks thinks is a big deal.  They play a game where they pick words that aren’t like or love to describe how they feel. Desiree picks ‘running’ as in running towards love. Brooks is happy with her choice, but admits he might be a step behind.

Chris goes on the second date and they enjoy a boat ride together. Chris writes her another poem and it ends with him telling her he loves her.  Desiree has a lot of chemistry with Chris and they seem like a good fit. Michael gets the last one on one date and gets to explore the city of Funchal and the culture of Madeira.  He opens up to her about his family and his last break up. They seem to get along and have a good time together.

Drew and Zak get the two on one date, but without the awkwardness of what Desiree had to go through with Michael and Ben. No one will get eliminated, but there is a rose and that rose means a hometown date. The three of them go to a race track to do some go-karting. Zak beats Drew at a race, so he gets the first one on one time. He gives her a scrapbook with mementos of their time together. Drew tells Desiree about his family and tells her that he loves her. She ends up giving the date rose to Drew.

Before the rose ceremony Desiree sits down with Chris Harrison. They talk about Brooks and she admits that she is at the finish line with him. She also tells him that she is falling for Chris and could see being with him and Drew and Zak are close behind. Chris asks her how that’s possible and she answers with ‘welcome to the Bachelorette’. At the rose ceremony she gives roses to Brooks, Chris and Zak. It is hard watching Michael say goodbye as he tells Desiree he has respect for her and wishes her well. He definitely was heartbroken.

It was a little surprising that Desiree chose Zak over Michael, since it seems that she and Zak don’t have much chemistry. It seems like she has the best connection with Brooks, Drew and Chris and could end up with any of them.  Next week, Desiree gets to meet the families and it marks the return of her crazy brother.
