TV Geek Army Field Guide: smash it up

  • Big, splashy, hyped series premiere with Smash tonight on NBC. I'm likely the wrong demo here (male, not into musicals unless Joss Whedon is attached) but will be interested to see how it plays.
  • Alcatraz is kind of on my "option" list, meaning that it's getting close to territory where I'm putting it on a week-to-week basis. So far there's been enough that's good – particularly with the flashback scenes, which are far more compelling than what takes place in the supernatural-tinged present – to keep me watching, but the clock (sentence?) is ticking.
  • If you like Pawn Stars, you'll like Cajun Pawn Stars. Catch a two-hour block that includes two episodes of original and two more of southern Cajun-fried!
  • Caged continues to be one of the best new reality series of recent years. I do wish they would spend a little more time showing the MMA matches that are featured at the end of each episode.
