White Collar, "Countdown": leap of faith

Quick Take: White Collar, "Countdown"
"Welcome to white collar." - Neal

White Collar

Review: White Collar, "Countdown"
(S0310) As this season's finale begins, Neal (Matt Bomer) and Mozzie (Willie Garson) are in danger of getting busted for stealing all that loot from the submarine. In short, Neal lied to Peter (Tim DeKay) and then lied to Mozzie and now it's about to hit the fan.

I always enjoy seeing Beau Bridges in a guest starring role. Whether it's Desperate Housewives, The Closer, or White Collar, he brings something familiar and and yet original to the role. It seemed to me that the only reason for Peter and him to work together was so that Peter could finally know for sure whether Neal had stolen the art. That's the kind of finality I like to see in a season finale.

As if things couldn't get more complicated, Melissa Matthews (Anna Chlumsky) shows up unannounced. Neal's quick thinking was equal parts brilliant and intense. I love seeing lies stacked on top of lies because the toppling is always epic. This includes Peter. In his zeal to catch Neal in the act, he is forgetting all the preaching about trust and honesty he's done over the years. I would think that an honest appeal to Neal's friendly sensibilities would go a long way, but maybe I'm being naive.

I don't know what purpose Mozzie's fake mustache served other than to make him look like the Micro Machines guy, but I enjoyed seeing the simultaneous plans in motion, very Mission: Impossible.

The parachute was a little too James Bond for my taste. I mean, do parachutes litter the streets of Manhattan every day? However, if anyone can pull that off, it's Neal Caffrey.

I really enjoyed this season finale, especially Peter's knowing smile. It was also nice seeing Neal finally be honest with Moz, nice and sad.

It was pretty obvious that Keller was going to do something heinous before it was all over, but I didn't expect him to go after El (Tiffani Thiessen). I don't know what I'm more excited to see, Peter kicking ass to get her back or Neal trying to atone for getting her taken away.
