If the impact of last night’s finale of the Walking Dead was at all diminished by the quality of season premieres it went up against, I’d hate to see how it would have matched up against those same shows’ finales.

We're forced to break off from a typically dramatic, scary, or exciting moment to a smash cut where Hardwick, decked out in hipster wear on a hipster set, is sitting with guests that often include actors from The Walking Dead.

It took me some time to get my mind around the fact that while The Walking Dead is chock full of undead flesh eating mutants, it's actually the far more realistic show.

The farm is overrun and the survivors are forced to flee.

"Christ promised the ressurection of the dead. I just thought he had something a little different in mind." - Herschel

"This you was you, not me. You did this to us." - Rick

"Who says we're civilized anymore?" - Andrea

"You can't just be the good guy and expect to live. Not anymore." - Shane

"Death is death, it's always been there." - Rick

Could a major character be killed off soon?

"At least I can say that when the world went to shit I didn't let it take me down with it." - Dale

"Crawl out of my butt." - Glenn

"You weren't supposed to see this." - Maggie

"I hear you're fast on your feet and you know how to get in and out." - Maggie

"Merle Dixon's clap was the best thing that ever happened to you." - Maggie

"We can't run around these woods chasing echos." - Daryl

While there are arguably great shows on the air on any given night, it's pretty clear that right now Sunday is the absolute king of television nights.

"It's all about slim chances now." - Rick

Showrunner Frank Darabont resigns suddenly.

"Do not go into the city. The city belongs to the dead now." - Rick

"I remember my dream now -- why I dug the holes" - Jim

"And we have fewer people. That makes us weaker." - Lori

"The only reason I got away is because the dead were too busy eating my family." - Jim

A better episode than the one before it but not as great as the pilot.

"It's gotta be the brain." - Daryl

“Guts” goes to the next level during the full sequence in which Rick and Glenn must pass through a busy street full o’ zombies to reach an escape vehicle.

I know I'm probably going to catch a fair amount of flack for saying this...

Last week's episode was near-perfect; this one was less so, but was still very well-done.

The Walking Dead, in its 90-minute premiere, reminded me of why I love King’s masterpiece while it began to establish its own unique and wonderful qualities.

It's been almost two whole days since I watched it, and I keep getting these lingering creepy feelings.

The Walking Dead, a very different kind of show due to its zombie quotient alone (and that quotient would be on the crazy high side), needs to be given a solid look see ahead of its premiere on Halloween, October 31st, on AMC.
